Fine Art Donations places Winslow Homer's “Snap The Whip” engraving into the Collection of the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia. Snap the Whip, was originally published in Harper’s Weekly in 1873, when Homer was an artist-correspondent for the newly illustrated journal. The engraving depicts a group of young boys playing outside in front of a rural schoolhouse— offering a peek into American post-Civil War life.

Snap the Whip engraving joins the Taubman’s respected collection of American art, which includes works by Norman Rockwell, John Singer Sargent, Childe Hassam, and Thomas Eakins. The donor is a private New York Collector, who was in possession of the piece for 3 years prior to completing the donation to the Taubman Museum of Art.
