The 2023 Cannes Film Festival is over, but that doesn't mean it's still in our minds! Every May, a star-studded crowd gathers in the South of France for the opening of the prestigious film festival. And although the central theme is the movies, the show's real star is the luxurious apparel. Celebrities dress in unique styles that slay in my mind year after year. The 2023 festival's fashions began on May 16, and the looks are merely exquisite. In this case, we selected 5 celebrities who lit up the red carpet.

1. Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria's red carpets in recent years are something that we have not surpassed, but it is that worth the redundancy, she does beat herself. This time it has not only been the turn of the translucent fabrics that play with body shapes but also of the sconces and fabrics that give something like their own light. She has walked the red carpet in a wedding dress, and if she is not planning to get married, she looks like it. But not with any attire, one by Elie Saab.

The neckline, the shape, the games in the fabric... Everything is unique in this exquisite piece that even has a train. We also found the makeup and hair part very successful: a disheveled low jumpsuit that does not detract from the total look, but that accompanies it.

2. Jennifer Lawrence

Last weekend, Jennifer Lawrence arrived in France. The actor was in town to attend the showings of Lawrence's documentary Bread and Roses, about Afghan women's lives under the Taliban. Lawrence represented the festival's flash and glamour on Sunday by attending a daytime photo call and an evening premiere for the documentary. Maria Grazia Chiuri of Christian Dior created two remarkable ensembles for the star.

Lawrence opted for a gray knit sheath dress from Dior's spring 2023 couture line for her daytime outfit. The coverall design with a deep-V in the back exposed a glimpse of a satin bra and briefs worn underneath, giving it a slightly beachy feel (perfect for beachside Cannes).

She changed into a red Old Hollywood-style gown for the premiere because red is one of her defining colors. This most recent silhouette featured a nipped waist, a ruffled collar, and a long, sweeping stole to complete the formal appearance. Her stunning engagement ring and diamond necklace looked like a movie star-worthy finish. Additionally, her brilliant jewelry finished the look.

3. Elle Fanning

This Alexander McQueen creation's pink and gray tones gave the actress a princess-like appearance. The floral-patterned corset gave the outfit a distinctive appearance. Although Elle and Sarah Burton, the creative director of the brand, collaborated for some time, they first met at the brand's March autumn/winter 2023 presentation. A particular attire from the Collection caught her eye as she watched from the front row. The star was enthralled by Look 53, a magnificent creation covered in bugle beads and crystals and featuring a sculptural, petal-adorned bodice; she knew then that she had to wear it on the red carpet.

Instead of the metallic tendrils that appeared in the initial design, Burton and the McQueen atelier added a voluminous pale-pink tulle skirt to the garment that was embellished with dégradé crystals that were manually sewn. The actor exclaims, "My jaw is still on the floor over each stone beaded by hand, and she did this for me!"

4. Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman was one of the best dressed during her arrival on the red carpet at the premiere of her new film, May December, where she wore an evening dress signed by Dior, a brand for which she has been an ambassador for its perfume division since 2010.

She wore a bespoke design based on a museum piece designed by Christian Dior himself in 1949. The Junon Dress is currently on display at the MET in New York. Any lover of fashion history will know that this dress is peculiarly special due to the significance that the Junon holds for the origins of the Maison. During the postwar period, Christian Dior pounced on opulence. Women who missed dressing sumptuously quickly embraced his designs, and one of them was the Junon Dress, whose name refers to the goddess Hera, the equivalent for the Romans was the goddess Juno.

5. Elsa Hosk

Nothing made the model predict that her dress would become one of the most acclaimed of this edition. She was impressed with this original dress from Viktor & Rolf's Spring 2023 Couture Collection that had to be flown in from Los Angeles at the last minute because, as Elsa herself explained, her suitcase had been lost. A deconstructed strapless design that showed a nude-coloured inner corset, revealing the doubt that hers had one or two dresses, and with which the model fell in love when she saw it on the catwalk.

"When I saw this dress coming down the runway, I was blown away by how when spinning and moving, the dress would look so surreal and beautiful and even bizarre at times, and not only was it breathtaking to me, but it also reminded to me not to take fashion so seriously. I know it had to be this dress," she posted on her profile, along with several images of herself seeing the garment from different perspectives.
