The Cannes Film Festival is well-known for having one of the world's most opulent and shining red carpets, but it also has a reputation for having a rigorous dress code. Female visitors have in the past been turned away because they chose to wear flat shoes rather than heels. But this year, celebrities showed that they weren't concerned about making the festival's list of fashion missteps by attempting to appear on the red carpet almost naked.
In fact, the red carpet this year might have been the nastiest in the occasion's history. It demonstrated that there is no incorrect way to bare it all on the step-and-repeat, whether the dress is made of transparent silk with undergarments on full show or has more cutouts than a block of Swiss cheese.

Shayk accessorized the barely there dress with strappy black sandals, silky black opera gloves, and knee-high stockings. In contrast to the outfit, Shayk's jewelry was unmistakably "more is more"; she wore a big statement collar necklace that was covered in diamonds. Over her gloved fingers, she put a couple of diamond cocktail rings, a cherry-red lip, and some sunglasses.
She had drawn attention before during the 2023 film festival. She strutted the carpet on May 21, wearing a torso-baring leather ensemble from Mowalola's fall 2023 ready-to wear-collection. Two crisscrossing leather straps made up Shayk's bra top, worn with the matching ultra-low-rise maxi skirt. Shayk juxtaposed the edgy outfit with a striking collar necklace made of glitter, no makeup, and sleek, straight hair that was worn down and away from her face.
