TAYLOR SWIFT'S ERAS TOUR STYLE
After years of anticipation, Taylor Swift finally embarked on a tour earlier this year. The Eras Tour, Swift’s first since 2018, follows her career through the different eras she has gone through. From the self-titled country album she released at only 16 to her record-breaking tenth album she released at 32, this tour shows it all. During the shows, she spends over three hours performing 44 songs, and she uses clothing to represent each era in the performance. The numerous costume changes throughout the three-hour set allows audience members to get an eyeful of designer looks that are all inspired by the albums she is performing.
The show starts with Taylor performing the Lover album. While performing this album, Taylor wears a jeweled Atelier Versace bodysuit in shades of pink and blue. Not only does this outfit follow the color scheme of the album cover, but it also is a reflection of some of the outfits she wore during the promotion of the Lover album. This outfit invokes both the light, airy nature of the album as well as the glamorous side of that era of Taylor Swift.
Following Lover, Taylor performs three songs from Fearless. This album was initially released in 2008 and re-recorded and released in 2021. During this portion of the performance, Taylor wears a custom gold fringe Roberto Cavalli dress. This look takes inspiration from the metallic fringes Taylor wore during her Fearless era, and it even resembles a custom Roberto Cavalli dress she wore back in 2011. It encapsulates the youthful spirit that surrounds this album and appeals to fans’ nostalgia for this time in Swift’s career.

Reputation, Taylor’s edgiest album from 2017, provides one of the best fashion moments in the show. This album came at a point in Swift’s career when her own reputation was under fire, and she was given the title of being a “snake.” The songs reflect her life as a woman overcoming a world full of hatred and mockery. Fully embracing all of the hate she received at this time, this portion of the show is performed in an asymmetrical, one-leg bodysuit made by Roberto Cavalli.
The black, beaded bodysuit is adorned with a red snake seemingly wrapping around her body. The completely red and black color palette of this ensemble reflects the darkness that surrounds Reputation. These were aesthetics that were often seen when she was touring this album. Not only is this outfit reminiscent of the black bodysuits she wore during her Reputation tour in 2018, but it also fully encapsulates the ethos of the Reputation album.
Released during the peak of the pandemic in 2020, folklore was one of Taylor Swift’s most whimsical albums and took on a very nature-themed aesthetic. She uses fashion to reflect this exact energy when performing folklore on stage. During this part of the show, she wears a variety of flowy Alberta Ferretti dresses that perfectly fit into the scene she creates on stage.
The draped fabric of these dresses create movement, depicting her frustrations during songs like “august” and “illicit affairs.” These dresses perfectly exemplify how much she uses clothing to portray the emotion and scene of each era. Like a scorned fairy floating around a meadow, she allows audiences to see exactly what she pictured in the making of these songs.

The styling of this show hits a high during the Speak Now set. Though this part of the concert is one of the shortest, its significance is shown through the elegant ball gowns she chooses each night. One night it is a Nicole + Felicia gown. The next night it is a Zuhair Murad princess-esque dress, and the following is a floral Elie Saab couture gown. Each paying homage to the Valentino ball gown she wore during her Speak Now tour. Not only is Speak Now a fan-favorite album, but Swift has said that this album has been on her mind a lot recently (possibly hinting that this will be the next album she re-records).
Nobody is going to a Taylor Swift concert just for the clothing, but she delivers impressive looks night after night regardless. This show in particular shows how important styling is in music. There is no better way to set the scene for a performance than by wearing an outfit that reflects the energy of the music. During each night of The Eras Tour, Swift creates a world on stage that takes fans through the journey of her career, and it seems more and more grand each night.
