Taylor Swift is dealing with a breakup—although, according to multiple sources, her relationship with Matty Healy wasn’t all that serious. But either way, Taylor was seen getting visibly emotional while performing “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” on the piano during a recent stop on the Eras Tour.
In a video posted by @taylorsgoldwing (and making the rounds on Twitter), Taylor gets visibly emotional while singing the lyrics “wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life.” According to the Daily Mail, the footage was taken during a Chicago Eras show this past weekend—right before news of Taylor and Matty Healy’s breakup dropped on Monday, June 5. But before you jump to too many conclusions, it’s possible Taylor was getting emotional about something/someone else! Or maybe she was just moved by the lyrics!
The emotionally-charged performance drew Swift reactions from fans. "Her voice breaks - she's looking up trying to hold her tears - continues to sing like that, it's literally heartbreaking," tweeted @japrilss, echoing the sentiments of countless others who empathized with the singer's palpable sorrow. @VIsOnCorneliaSt wrote, "Someone tells her she doesn't have to do it to herself if she's not ready." The account suggested she play happier tunes instead, like "Change," "Superman," "Dorothea" and "Closure."
Despite the emotional toll, Taylor looked dazzling in a vibrant green dress paired with striking red lipstick during the performance. Before the news broke, fans speculated that her charged performance might have been influenced by her previous relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn, whom she dated for six years. However, in light of recent events, it seems her recent split with Matty may have been the catalyst.
On Monday, TMZ reported that Swift and Healy broke up after a month of dating. According to Entertainment Tonight, an insider claimed that incompatibility and scheduling conflicts were to blame for the breakup. “Taylor and Matty broke up,” the source revealed. “They are both swamped and realize they’re not really compatible with each other. Taylor’s friends want what’s best for her and aren’t shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship.”

Anyway, a source recently told Page Six that Taylor isn't too torn up about things between her and Matty ending, saying, "She will not be writing albums about this one. It was a summertime thing." They added that Taylor couldn't have a good time with anyone without the press marrying her off to them. Then when she moves on, they have to have her file for divorce basically. The insider also pointed out that Taylor is "allowed to let off some steam and sow some oats afterwards without people claiming first that she's 'head over heels' and then that she's 'breaking up' with the guy. It's not a breakup. It's a natural evolution of a fun little thing whose moment is over."
Since all the information is from sources and none of the main characters has made their relationship public, it is unclear why Taylor Swift and Matty Healey broke up. The critical point is that she feels depressed for some reason, but it's challenging to figure out why. Therefore, we shouldn't assume that her sobs result from her purported split.
