SACAI X CARHARTT WIP COLLAB RELEASE DATE
The juxtaposition of one brand's softness and the other's ruggedness typically doesn't harmonize, but Sacai and Carhartt WIP manage to achieve this unlikely blend. The brands worked together to create pieces that embody both of their company goals in clothing. In their new collaboration, Sacai x Carhartt WIP, contrasting fabrics and textures come together to form a wearable and unique collection.

Sacai, a Japanese-founded company, had its start as a primarily knitwear brand. Started by Chitose Abe in 1999, her work as a designer with COMME des GARÇONS allowed her to find a unique voice in the fashion world and venture on her own path. Her clothing is an amalgamation of basic comfort pieces mixed with statement garments that could be worn for various occasions. Abe understands what it means to be an everyday woman and caters her clothing to that audience.
So, when thinking about how feminine Sacai and boxy Carhartt Work In Progress (the brand’s sustainable designer branch) come together to form a collection, it is quite difficult to imagine. And yet, the brands worked together seamlessly. Sacai’s Pre-Fall 2023 Show in Paris showcased a first glimpse into the collaboration with Carhartt and left viewers wanting more. Announced just last week, they plan to release the full collection on September 8th, 2023.

Together, the two brands have created lush clothing and heavy garments. There is an abundance of winter coats in this collection, but they have a rough Carhartt spin. Leather pants are sprinkled throughout, whether under a skirt or on their own, bringing in the classy Sacai look. The second model to walk the runway wore a faux fur structured jacket with gold detailing. Her pleated skirt acts as a counter to the top, but somehow, the mesh of aesthetics just works.
Although the full collection has not been shown, from the small glimpses given, it seems like there will be lots of layering with knitwear and cotton bases. These pieces can function in work environments but have a level of chic and couture that Sacai brings to the table. Overall, this is a collaboration that should not be overlooked.
