FROM STAY-AT-HOME MOM TO DESIGNER & CEO, RAMY BROOK SHARP SHARES HER SUCCESSES

Starting a business is never easy, but Ramy Brook Sharp proves that anyone can succeed with hard work and perseverance. In an interview, Ramy shared her journey from being a stay-at-home parent to becoming a successful Fashion Designer. Ramy's story is an inspiration to many aspiring entrepreneurs, and her experience offers valuable insights into how to succeed in the fashion industry.



Ramy began her fashion brand, Ramy Brook, in 2010 while raising her three children. Beforehand the designer had worked in marketing and then taken on the job of being a full-time mom. Once her children were old enough, she had some free time on her hands— she began looking for something more to do.


Ramy was inspired by the beautiful silk blouses she saw in designer stores but felt they were too expensive. Ramy decided to make her own, and her simple yet elegant designs quickly caught the attention of Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury department store. Within months of starting her business, Ramy had her line in one of the most prestigious stores in the world.

Reflecting on her experience, Ramy shares that "I really felt that in that contemporary world, I could never find anything that was, you know, a sexy, simple top to wear with my jewelry basically. So that's when I started my brand."


When asked about the challenges she faced in the early days of her business, Ramy explains that "I started doing trunk shows, and I went anywhere I had a friend. So that was the way I started to learn what people liked, what people wanted to wear. And it was a great model at the time. They paid 100% upfront; I would go to the garment center, buy fabric, drive it to Brooklyn, and have the sample maker make the top."


Despite the challenges, Ramy persevered, and her hard work paid off when Bergdorf Goodman picked up her line. Reflecting on this experience, Ramy says, "It was really exciting when no one else has what you're selling. And for me to say, 'Oh, I'm at Bergdorf Goodman,' people are impressed, so it helps sell to other stores."


Today, Ramy's brand can be found in major department stores like Bloomingdale's, and her signature aesthetic is beloved by many. "I have this love for jewelry," she shares, "and that's why when I started it was a solid silk top. So this way, you could wear any necklace, any earrings like three girls could be wearing the same top, and you won't even know it because they really make it their own."


Ramy's story teaches us that success is possible if we are willing to take risks and work hard. Ramy has achieved her dream of creating a successful fashion brand by following her passion. Her journey is an inspiration to anyone who wants to start their own business and make their mark in the fashion industry.


As Ramy puts it, "Throughout all my designs, it all had that sexy wearable vibe. So you'll see that no matter whether it's a swim line, even the denim occasion ready-to-wear, it all is for that girl who really wants to feel good about herself."
